Substantial increases in Customs, beer, sales, and petrol taxes were revealed when the figures for November are compared with those for the corresponding period of 1935.- Gold duty was slightly lower, while there was a big drop in the tyre tax. These increases are also noticeable when the eight-monthly period, April-November, is compared with the corresponding eight months last year, only the tyre tax showing a small decrease. Figures for November, with comparative figures for the same month last year are as follows:—Customs, £62,069 (£55,511)° "beer, £25,727 (£23,940): sales tax, £23,583 (£22.972); petrol tax, £13,934 (£10,592); tyre tax, £347 (£1069); gold, £1558 (£1634).
