CHRISTCHURCH, November 30. Increases in every item of Customs revenue collected at Christchurch are «hown in the totals of the first eight months of the financial year, compared with the same period last year, ihe figures are as follows, last years ieturns being given in parentheses:— F.iffht ' months: Customs duty, £714 655; beer duty, £67.066 (£56,819); sales tax £260,844 (.£214,268); petrol tax £19,088 (£124,263); tyre duty, £7541 (£6797). November: Customs £91000 (£77,466); beer duty, £9^ (£6437); sales tax. £33,791 (£30,170); petrol tax, £934 (£1086). DUNEDIN, November 30. Substantial increases in Customs, beer, sales, and petrol taxes were revealed when the figures for November are compared with those for the corresponding period of 1935.- Gold duty was slightly lower, while there was a big drop in the tyre tax. These increases are also noticeable when the eight-monthly period, April-November, is compared with the corresponding eight months last year, only the tyre tax showing a small decrease. Figures for November, with comparative figures for the same month last year are as follows:—Customs, £62,069 (£55,511)° "beer, £25,727 (£23,940): sales tax, £23,583 (£22.972); petrol tax, £13,934 (£10,592); tyre tax, £347 (£1069); gold, £1558 (£1634). Following are the returns for the nrst eight months of the financial year, with the comparative figures for the same period last year:—Customs, £477,810 (£422,642); beer, £173:886 (£150,392); sales, £188,670 (£165,034); petrol. £107.340 (£89,760); tyres, £5118 (£5956); gold. £15.441 (£14,680).
