BRITISH FILMS
EXPIRING ACT
COMMITTEE'S REPORT
(British Official Wlreless.i RUGBY, November 28. The report of the committee appointed by the President of the Board of Trade to consider the position of British films having in mind the approaching expiry of the Cinematograph Films Act and to advise whether any, and if so, what measures are still required in the public interest to promote the production, renting, and exhibition of British films was issued today. The committee recommends that the Government should keep a close watch on transfers of interests in British producing, renting, and exhibiting units with a view to taking such steps as may be practicable to prevent the control passing into foreign hands. The committee also suggests that the Government should take such steps as may be practicable to encourage financial interests to constitute one or more organisations to finance British film production in approved cases on reasonable terms. On the main question the committee, finds that the requirement of quotas on the renting and exhibition of films should continue for a further period of ten years.
