SHIP DECORATION
THE MEW CUNARDER
(From "The Post's" Representative.)
LONDON, October 28,
Whereas Mr. Brian O'Rorke (Christchurch) was responsible for the decorations of the Orion, and Mr. Arthur Davis, with Mr. Benjamin Morris, for those of the Queen Mary, Mr. Grey Wornum has been entrusted with- the internal design of the new Cunarder that is to be built on the Queen Mary's berth at Clydebank. This appointment .is regarded as an earnest that the new liner will be decorated on really modern, but not eccentric, lines.
The * "Manchester Guardian" comments: "Mr. Grey Wornum is still in his forties, and in his R.1.8.A. building he convinced the profession that he was a master in the imaginative use of spaces. By his arrangement of the stairway and halls he seems to have made the building twice its size. He has also distinctive gifts for a gay, handsome decorativeness, particularly appropriate to the recreative function of a great passenger ship in these days. One is glad to see that Mr. Benjamin. Morris is to be associated with him in a consultative capacity. He is a man of fine taste, great resource, and immense practical experience."
When ill health overtook Mr. Davis, Mr. Benjamin Morris, the American architect, considerably influenced the ultimate form of the Queen Mary's decorations.
