CHRISTMAS CHEER
SMITH FAMILY'S EFFORT
With the approach of Christmas the Smith Family have been giving consideration to the most suitable method of disbursing the funds raised for the purpose of providing Christmas cheer for those in need. In the first three years of its existence the family provided Christmas hampers containing a good supply of household needs, with everything required for a substantial Christmas dinner. Last year, in view of the bonus made available to the unemployed by the Government, the family issued orders on any trading concern enabling the recipients to provide themselves with what they were mostly in need.
At a meeting of the directors of the family last evening the matter of the Christmas cheer distribution for 1936 was discussed, and it was decided that in view of the improvement in conditions generally Christmas cheer this year Avould be provided for old age pensioners, widows, children, and the needy sick. As, Avell as helping this section of the community, the family will provide Christmas cheer for many special cases which it has on its files and where assistance is still urgently needed.
