INCREASED BUSINESS
EXCESS OF DEPOSITS
Five months' experience of the current financial year indicates that the business of the Post and Telegraph Department is showing substantial improvement on the previous year's period, stated the Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones) to a "Post" representative today. "The total revenue for the five months," said Mr. Jones, "was £1,546,014, showing an increase over the corresponding five months of 1935 of £107,155. The improvement is spread over all. the principal headings: Increase. £ £ Postages 539,777 31,011 Telegraphs 121,476 10,973 ' Tolls 218,677 21,236 Telephones 541,505 40,882 "On the savings bank side," added the Minister, "the same progress is being shown. The excess of deposits over withdrawals for the month of August was £259,703, while the excess of deposits over withdrawals for the five months of this financial year amounts to £1,557,986."
