MR. LUCAS NOT SANGUINE
RAISING OF GUARANTEE
SYDNEY, September 23.
There were no developments in connection with the' Ross-Carroll fight today, except that the promoter, Mr. Charles Lucas, is now not sanguine of obtaining the remainder of the guarantee on time.
A Sydney cable on Tuesday stated that the promoter of the Barney RossJack Carroll fight, Mr. Charles Lucas, had announced that- unless he could raise £6500 by Tuesday the world welterweight championship fight fixed for December at Sydney would be cancelled. Mr. Lucas had, up to Monday, been able to raise only £7000 of the requisite £13,500 guarantee to Ross. Mr. Lucas on Tuesday cabled Barney Ross's manager asking for an extension of time until 3 p.m. yesterday to enable him to secure the remainder of the guarantee to Ross for the proposed world title bout against Carroll. Mr. Lucas was then confident he would get it.
