Since then the Waitemata County Council agreed to find £674 in addition to its original assessment 0f.£677, and the City Council was committed to a further £1000, leaving £1000 still to be raised.
At Tuesday's meeting, over which the Deputy Mayor, the Hon. B. Martin, M.L.C., presided, the draft clause for special legislation for the raising of the money was presented. This provided that the City Council-should undertake to pay to the Government £14,500, and that local bodies which could not find their shares at once should give debentures to the City Council for the amounts. It was mentioned that the term for the redemption of the debentures could be fixed at up to ten years, although those bodies which desired it could pay in two years or less.
