LIBRARIANS TO MEET
FORTHCOMING LECTURES
A meeting of the Society of Wellington Librarians will be held in the Alexander Turnbull Library oh September 29, when Mr. C. A. L. Tread-j well will give an address on New Zealand prose. Mr. W. S. Wauchop is to address the following meeting of the society on "Specialisation in Libraries." This meeting will be held on October 21, also at the Alexander Turnbull Library. The New Zealand Library Association intends to hold its biennial conference early next year, probably from February 16 to February 18. The society of Wellington Librarians is not at present affiliated to the New Zealand Library Association, but its constitution expresses an intention of ultimately seeking affiliation. At the meeting of the society on September 29 members will be asked to vote on a proposal that the society seek affiliation and that when affiliation has been granted certain amendments be made to the constitution and rules. If affiliation is sought, professional librarians will be unable to' 'remain members of the society unless they are members of the association. The Society of Auckland Librarians has already applied for affiliation, and its members have applied for membership of the association. It is understood that the Otago Society librarians intend to make similar application. A further topic for discussion is the question of professional education. Members will be asked to approve a remit, "That the council of the New Zealand Library Association be asked to set up a small committee to inquire into the possibility of the association's conducting an examination preliminary to the examinations of the Library Association (London), but more in accord with New Zealand requirements; and also of granting a fellowship for advanced work of a research character."
