Alicetown Women's Club. Mrs. Ashforth presided over a good attendance of members and friends at the September meeting of the Alicetown Women's Club. Three new members were nominated. Items by the singing circle, under the leadership of Mrs. Gibson Young, were much enjoyed, as also two delightful solos sung by Mrs. Love. "The Well-planned and Balanced Meal"- wasvthe< subject of a very interesting address by Miss Rennie. Several good foundation recipes were given, and members were kept busy with pencils and paper. Mrs. Ashforth, presented Miss Rennie with a dainty shoulder spray. Mrs, Evans was the winner of trie; competition. .

Complimentary Party. ■'. St. Peter's Club recently was the scene- of a very happy gathering of old and new friends, organised by Mesdames W. J. Millen, F.Moss, D. McIvor, M. Agar, A. L. ; Hill, members of St. Peter's Busy Bee Guild, in honour of Mrs. A. Bobbins; who is eighty years of age, and who resides in Brooklyn, being a very old member

of St.-Peter's Church. Pink and white comprised the colour scheme of the table decorations, and also of the large cake, which was bedecked with eighty candles, and was a gift of love from Mrs. Mclvor. Mrs. Robbins was given "musical honours," and received numerous gifts and bouquets of spring' flowers. On behalf of those present, Archdeacon Bullock presented the guest of honour with a clock, and a handsomely bound prayer book. Items were contributed by Mrs. Martin Williams, Mrs. B. Irwin, and Mrs. Elsie Phillips, the singing' 1 of Auld Lang Syne concluded a very happy afternoon. A Celebration.

A delightful pasty was held out at the Crow's Nest on Saturday night when many of Miss Donna Swift's friends gathered together at a complimentary party. The guest of honou:: wore a white satin and silver frock cut oh classical lines. Among those present were Mrs. D. Swift (Palmerston North), Misses Peggy Swift (Palmerston North), M. Green, J. Penberthy, J. Carr, J. Tucker (Palmerston North), Mr. and Mrs. R. Thomson, Mr. and Mrs. Aldridge, Messrs. Batchelar (Palmerston North); C. Watkins (Foxton), S. Swift, K. Law, N. , Murdoch, G. Willis.

''Bon Voyage" Party. To bid bon voyage to their popular member, Mr. Trevor Marshall, who is leaving shortly for England to join the Royal Air Force, the staff of Todd Motors, Ltd., and friends assembled on Thursday night at Miss Barbara Thorburn's studio. Dancing, interspersed with games and musical items, provided a successful and happy evening. Elocutionary items, "Mrs. Higgins at the. Talkies" and "Mrs. Vance Follows Suit," by Miss Zena Goldstein, also items by Miss Foley and Messrs. E. Dean Macilquhan, were much appreciated. Mr. Marshall. was presented with a handsome cigarette casket. Thanks were also expressed to the hostess, Miss Barbara Thorburn, who kindly made her studio available fdV the occasion. Proceedings concluded to the strains of "Auld Lang Syne." , • Pre-wedding Parties.

'Many successful afternoon and evening parties have been held recently in honour of Miss Nelia Sakey, t whose marriage will take place at an early date. The hostesses include Mrs.'M. Liddle, Petone; Mrs. W. P. Williams, Lower Hutt; Mrs. H. Mponey, Kelburn; Mrs. A. .Marshall and Miss E. Marshall, Hataitai; Miss L. Beere (Kongotai); Mr. and Mrs. F. Thomas and Miss E. Thomas, Lowe,r Hutt; and Mrs. L. Butland and Miss C,Wilson. All these functions have proved a great success, withmany pleasant memories and gifts for the prospective bride.' Otaki Institute.

A meeting of the Otaki W.I. was held in the Anglican Hall recently when Mrs; Synnott presided over a.fair attendance. A. demonstration, which was keenly followed by all present, was that given by Mrs. R. Evans, Kimberley, on "Wreath and Posy Making." Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames G. Evans, B. Knox", Will Taylor, Walter Taylor, Wallington, and Miss Margaret Taylor. The competitions resulted as follows: Sausage rolls, Mrs. D. Taylor 1, Mrs. G.', Evans 2; pikelets, Miss Mary Taylor 1, Mrs. V. ■ Taylor 2; basketware, Miss Flora Taylor.
