FAT EWES CHEAPER

PRICES AT FEILDING (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)" FEILDING, September 18. A further drop in the prices of fat ewes was seen at today's stock sale, bringing values to a fair average. Fat hoggets and wethers also showed an easing in prices. Store sheep, on the other hand, were very, firm' at late rates, with a keen demand for both ewe and wether hoggets. There was a smaller entry of fat cattle and prices remained firm on previous rates. Prime ox beef >■ made about 30s per 1001b and prime cow 265. A feature of this section of the sale was the high range of prices for dairy breeds of fat stock. Dairy cattle generally declined about 15s a head compared with last Friday. This was wholly accounted for by the weather conditions. There was still a very good demand for best-quality heifers, pedigree lines going at £8 10s. The store cattle market remained firm, with a pronounced demand for station lines of young cattle. Following is the range of prices:— Fat ewes, prime heavy, 355; maiden ewes, 37s 6d; good pens, 30s 2d to 335; light, from 26s lOd.
