FAT EWES CHEAPER

PRICES AT FEILDING (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)" FEILDING, September 18. A further drop in the prices of fat ewes was seen at today's stock sale, bringing values to a fair average. Fat hoggets and wethers also showed an easing in prices. Store sheep, on the other hand, were very, firm' at late rates, with a keen demand for both ewe and wether hoggets. There was a smaller entry of fat cattle and prices remained firm on previous rates. Prime ox beef >■ made about 30s per 1001b and prime cow 265. A feature of this section of the sale was the high range of prices for dairy breeds of fat stock. Dairy cattle generally declined about 15s a head compared with last Friday. This was wholly accounted for by the weather conditions. There was still a very good demand for best-quality heifers, pedigree lines going at £8 10s. The store cattle market remained firm, with a pronounced demand for station lines of young cattle. Following is the range of prices:— Fat ewes, prime heavy, 355; maiden ewes, 37s 6d; good pens, 30s 2d to 335; light, from 26s lOd. Prime hoggets, to 26s 4d; extra prime, 27s Id; good weights, 25s 7d; fair to medium, 24s 9d. . Prime b.f.s, 35s 6d; extra heavy, 3tfs lOd. Prime wethers, 395. Store Sheep.—Wether hoggets, good pens, 25s 4d to 26s 4d; fair, to 24s lid; unattractive, 21s 7d; b.f. hoggets, 20s 7d to 23s 4d; ewe hoggets, goo.d, to 345; fair, 31s to 335; others, from 25s lOd. Ewes and lambs, all counted, 16s 3d'to 17s; f. and f. ewes, 12s. Fat Cattle.—Jersey heifers, prime heavy, £5 15s to £6 15s; light, from £2 12s to £4 15s; Jersey cows, prime heavy, to £6 7s; light, from £3 15s to £5 10s; Holstein cows, £4 15s; Hol-stein-Shorthorn cross cows, £7 ss; R.P. cows, prime heavy, £9; P.A. cows, heavy, £8 7s; light, £6 17s 6d; P.A. heifers, heavy £B, light £5 to £7.12s 6d; Shorthorn heifers, light, to £5 10s; Jersey steers, £4 2s 6d; vealers, £3 16s.
