CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE LIST OF FIXTURES A programme of the various functions to be held in connection' with the Empire, Chamber of , Commerce Congress, to be held in Wellington in the first week of October, has ' been issued by Mr. C. J. B. Norwood, president of the' Wellington Chamber of Commerce. ■ Included in the arrangements are the following fixtures, to which special attention is called:— Thursday, October 1, 4 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.—Members' reception to delegates and ladies at Palm Lounge, Hotel St. George. Friday, October 2, 11 a.m.—Opening of Congress at Concert Chamber, Town" Hall. During the Congress sittings on the Friday, Monday, "Tuesday, and Wednesday, accommodation for listeners to the debates is limited. Saturday, October 3.—A motor allday picnic outing into the country, arranged by the-executive of the. Associated Chambers of Commerce of New [Zealand. I Tuesday, October 6, 8.30 p.m.—Ball !■■ at. Town-Hall, tendered by the WelI lington Chamber of Commerce. ' Thursday: Morning, free from official engagements; 1.15 p.m., members of executive committee of federation will lunch at Wellesley Club with executive committee of Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand; 4 p.m., reception at Hotel St. George; 8.30 p.m.,, reception at, Government House by their Excellencies the Gov-!"ernor-General and Lady Galway to delegates, wives,-and daughters. Friday:: 10.45 a.m., the women's reception committee of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce will meet the visiting women at the Town Hall and will then proceed to the official opening. of the congress; 11 a.m., opening of congress; 1 p.m., State luncheon -at Town Hall; 8 p.m., musical evening at Lyceum Club for visiting women; 8 pirn., reception by English-speaking Union at Hotel St, George to visiting delegates, wives, and daughters. Saturday, all day: Picnics. Alternative routes are being arranged; (a) through Akatarawa Valley, (b)- into Wairarapa, and (c) <to other points visiting delegates may desire to visit. Sunday: Day free from.official engagements. Monday: 2.30 p.m., garden party arranged for women visitors by the Wellington Travel Club, at the residence of Mr. B. Sutherland, Karori; 8.30 p.m., reception by the Wellington City Corporation to the delegates, wives, and daughters at the Town Hall. Tuesday: 10.30 a.m., women to be entertained at morning tea by the Victoria League at the National Art Gallery, Buckle Street; 8.30 p.m., Wellington Chamber of Commerce ball at the Town Hall, to'the delegates and visiting ladies. ; .;'■■ -■-■'•'.■ ■ Wednesday: 10.45 a.m., -the women will be entertained at morning tea by the Pioneer Club} 3 p.m., a visit will be made'by the women to the Truby King Karitane Hospital; 7.15 p.m., conveyances will take-the visitors to the steamer express for the South Island on the commencement of the. official tours. . \-

SPECIAL STAMP ISSUE The interest taken in the issue of stamps commemorating the first meeting in New Zealand of the Federated Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire has caused the Post Office to make special arrangements for first-day postings of correspondence,at the Congress Post Office in Wellington. No official first-cover envelopes are being issued, but collectors may arrange for first-day postings at the special office by forwarding addressed envelopes with remittance and instructions to the Director-General; G.P.0., Wellington (Stamps Branch)- to reach him prior to the end of September. The. Congress Post Office will be opened in the Town Hall, Wellington, at 9 a.m. on Thursday,'. October 1. the date on which the stamps (id, .Id, 2id, .d, and 6d) will be first' issued, and the office date-stamp will indicate the special nature of the occasion by incorporating the wording ."Empire Conference, Chambers . of Commerce, Wellington, New Zealand."

The Post Office will accept at the Inquiry Counter of the Chief Post Office, Wellington, correspondence (except registered, correspondence) for forwarding to the Congress Post Office for posting. ,
