COSTLY OVERHAUL

NEW PLYMOUTH DREDGE (By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") NEW PLYMOUTH,,This Day. . The estimated cost of repairs .to the New Plymouth Harbour Boards dredge Paritutu, which sails for Wellington today, is £IO,OOO. She is expected to be in dock for three months. Every four years the dredge undergoes an extensive refit, with an overhaul less frequently, the- cost usually being about £SOOO. The extensive nature of work and increase in labour costs, estimated at 30 per cent., have made this year's refit more costly than usual. The heavy work imposed on the dredge in deepening and widening the harbour fairway and the pumping of drifting sand imposes, heavy strain on the vessel. Each year the Paritutu pumps and carries out to sea over 200,000 tons of sand and boulders.
