BUT SHOWERS POSSIBLE Special forecast for Wellington:— Moderate westerly to south-west-erly winds, freshening at times. Weather mainly fair, but a brief shower or two still possible. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today is for westerly to south-westerly winds. These will be strong in exposed.positions, but otherwise for the most part will be moderate in force. The weather for the most part will be fair to fine, with cold night and milder day temperatures. Passing showers, however, are likely'at times, in western and far northern and southern districts. Yesterday's depression has now passed away eastwards, but a series of secondaries continues to cross the southern portion of the Dominion. An anticyclone is moving from Australia on to the northern and western portions of the Tasman Sea. Moderate to strong westerly winds have predominated, but in many places last night winds backed to the south-west. The weather yesterday was unsettled and somewhat squally,: and during the night rain fell in most districts. Snow has fallen on some of the higher levels in the South Island, Naseby reporting a depth of three inches on the ground. The weather this morning, however, except for some scattered showers m western districts, showed a marked improvement generally. Auckland's weather yesterday was somewhat unsettled and cloudy, rain totalling seven points falling in the afternoon. At 9 a.m. today a moderate south-westerly was blowing, conditions still being cloudy, Wellington had dull and threatening weather yesterday morning with occasional showers, but it cleared later and there was some sunshine during the afternoon. A strong north-westerly wind reached gale force at times, but it moderated in the night. There was a temporary change to southerlies after midnight, but it was practically calm during the early hours this morning, and at 9 a.m. today a light northerly was blowing, the weather being beautifully fine and sunny.
