HALF-DAY QUESTION
DECISION AT PAHIATUA (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PAHIATUA, This Day. A meeting of business men of Pahiatua on Monday carried a proposal to change to Saturday half-day by 34 votes to 23. The meeting also decided that the change be made on the first Saturday ; in October after an amendment making the change on January 3, moved by Wednesday adherents, had been lost by one vote. It was obvious from the tone of the latter section that they had no intention of closing in accordance with the resolution passed. Rather than have the town divided, this body organised a meeting of bona fide retailers governed by the Shops and Offices Act last night when a decision was arrived at by a large majority that the Saturday half-day be obesrved after the Christmas and New Year trading was over.
