OLD MAN JILTED
. Jilted on. the eve of his . wedding, 99-year-old - Charles Jeannette,- of Old Forge, N.Y., a veteran of the American Civil War,- folded up - the wedding dress which his prospective wife had left behind and expressed a hope that she might return. "I've put the dress in a drawer against her return," the ail-but: centenarian declared, when asked what he proposed to do about His '55-year-old'sweetheart's defection. The old man called once or twice at the village post office in hope of receiving a letter of explanation, but none came. Meanwhile the bride was located in a village not many miles away, staying with relatives. She declined to say why she had loft only 24 hours before the ceremony.
