NEW AWARD SOUGHT
CABLE CAR EMPLOYEES Wages and conditions of work for employees of the Kelburne and Karori Tramway Co., Ltd., were the subject of an industrial dispute heard before the Conciliation Commissioner. (Mr. M. J. Reardon) today. The employees (applicants) were represented by Messrs. W. Sant, C. S. Morton, and W. n; BrOadley, and the employers by Messrs. W. J. Mountjoy (advocate), C. Cox, and J. Darling. A 40-hour week was agreed upon, with shifts of eight hours per day from |Mondon to Saturday inclusive. Work done on Sunday is to be paid for in accordance with the overtime clause. The following were the wage claims of the applicants; those; of the responds ents being given .in parentheses:— Gripmen. 2s 5d per hour (2s;3Jd); relief, 2s sd;. ropemen, 2s! 6d <2s sd); general hands, 2s 5d (2s 3Jd); cleaners,' 2s 3id' (2s 2£d); ticket clerks. Is 3Jd (Is 3d). It was agreed that overtime in excess of eight hours a day or 40 hours a week be paid for at the rate of time and a half, and that employees required to work between 11, p.m. and 7 a.m. be paid at the rate of - time and; a half for- the: first night and' thereafter at ordinary rates with "an additional 2s per shift. . ... For Sunday work the employees claimed double time with- a minimum of four hours,- and for work done Ort Good Friday, Anzac Day, and Christmas Day double time was also claimed. The employers offered time and a half rates for work on' Sundays and Anzac Day; and double time: on .Good Friday and Christmas Day. -No, agreement was reached an this clause, arid the matter was left in abeyance.
