FRENCH INDEMNITY CLAIM

A message from Lisbon states' that the Spanish rebels opened a very heavy offensive against Toledo, and claim to have inflicted a thousand loyalist casualties. San Sebastian reports that Moorish troops have resumed the advance towards Bilbao.
Thousands of refugees returned over the international bridge at Irun when the frontier was reopened today. Most of them found their homes in ruins.
France has demanded an indemnity of £4000 from the insurgent authorities at Tetuan, following their execution of a Frenchman, Henri Aguilard. The time limit expires on September 17. Rejection will entail the closing of the Franco-Spanish frontier in Morocco.
