DOMINION'S FORESTS
DESTRUCTION TO CEASE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
WAIROA, This Day. The present Government intends to do all it can to preserve the remaining forest area in New Zealand, according to a statement made here by the Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs. The axe and the fire-stick had been used far too much in New Zealand, and, as a result, thousands of acres of the most magnificent scenery had been ruined, said the Minister. Many acres of country had been denuded of growth, and in consequence the country was being called upon today to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds to clear rivers of silt sent down off the hills.
