WAIROA, This Day,
"Since I left Wellington I have been elated with the spirit of the people I have met in the various districts I have visited," said the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) today. "In Wairoa they seem to have an altogether different spirit." The Minister added that men working In the bush and workers generally were a pleasure to meet today. They were all pleased and happy, and when men showed their happiness in that manner it was some compensation for the work that had been done on their behalf.
"It is a godsend to meet people happy in their work," said the Minister. "That is what we want, and what we are trying to create in New Zealand. We do not belong to any one section of the community. The duty of the Government is to see that the results of Ihe labour of the people are more equitably distributed than in the past."
The Minister stated that the Government's recent legislation had created d. feeling of hope in the minds of the people, who were working today as (.hey had never worked before.
Mr. Parry and party arrived at Wairoa yesterday afternoon from Rotorua, having spent the night at Waikaremoana, where a breakdown with a car caused delay. The Minister was very enthusiastic about the scenery at Waikaremoana, and stated that he was more convinced than ever that no country in the world could excel the Dominion for scenic- beauty.
