ARRESTS IN SYRIA
GENDARMES FIRED ON
SUSPECTED GUN-RUNNING
(Received September 16,12.40 p.m.) BEIRUT, September 15. Le Banese gendarmes surrounded several villages in the Shouf district, which is believed to harbour armed bands. While transferring several prisoners the gendarmes were fired on from a hill, and further arrests followed. Twelve rifles and a quantity of ammunition which it is believed were being' smuggled to Palestine were confiscated.
