DROWNED IN RIVER
LORD TREVETHIN
LONDON, August 4.
The nonagenarian Lord Trevethin, when engaged in salmon fishing, his favourile sport, in the Wye, stumbled in shallow water and fell into a rapid current, which carried him into a deep pool.
His chauffeur and another man waded in and with the assistance of three Boy Scouts, brought him to the bank, but he was dead.
Lord Trevethin was born in 1843 and was the son of Dr. David Lawrence, the surgeon. He was educated at Cambridge, where he took first class honours,in law, and was called to the Bar in the Middle Temple in 1869. Up to 1904 he was Recorder of Windsor, and from that date to 1921 was a Judge of the High Court of Justice. In 192:----22 he was Lord Chief Justice of England," and his barony dates from that time. He was President of the War Compensation Court in 1920, and was a Privy Councillor. He married in 1875 Miss Jessie Elizabeth Lawrence, who died five years ago, ancl had two sons and one daughter.
