Northerly winds have consequently prevailed, and these in places about and to the south of Cook Strait and in the far north have become strong. Rain has fallen in, the western and far southern districts of the South Island, 'and light and misty showers fell yesterday in the neighbourhood of Cook. Strait. Elsewhere, however, the weather has been fair and mild- generally, although since last night it has clouded over in most parts of the Dominion.

Auckland had a light north-easterly wind yesterday and fine weather. The wind, however, by this morning had freshened and it had -become cloudy.

In Wellington most of the day was overcast, 1.3 hours of bright sunshine being recorded, mostly early in the morning. Occasional light and misty rain, totalling three points in all> fell up to 6.30 p.m. A northerly breeze prevailed and became stronger during the night. '.:•■:

In Christchurch it was fine and sunny during the early part of the day, but it gradually clouded over and the afternoon was dull. A gusty east-north-east wind prevailed. The night was mild, and the weather this morning was' still overcast with a. light breeze from the north.
