CENTRE CONGRATULATED

N.Z.A.A.A. COUNCIL MEETING

The balance-sheet for the last New Zealand track and field championship meeting, which was held in Dunedin, was before the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic' Association last night. It showed a profit on- the meeting of £143 Os 9d. The secretary (Mr. H. McCormick) stated that the association's share of this profit was £71 10s 4d.

"Very good," commented Mr. L. A. Tracy after the result of the meeting had been given. On Mr. Tracy's recommendation it ; was decided to write to" the Otago' Centre .congratulating it on the financial result.. ,The. Palmerstoh North V.M.C.A. Harrier ,Club' "was- granted affiliation.

It was decided_to' adopt the Auckland Centre's' recommendation- in respect of the Speight" pup, which is 1 for competition in the ,parade of teams ;at the New Zealand track-and field championship meeting. - The ' recom-. mendation of the Auckland Centre that the rules should be amended to provide that,.,if in the opinion" of the referee tlie weather conditions are Unsuitable, he shall have authority to abandon the competition for that year.

Red on white was selected as the colour scheme for athletes'; registered numbers for the next track season.

SILENCE FROM CANTERBURY.

Nothing further having come to hand-from the Canterbury Centre relating'to the application by V. P. Boot (Canterbury).for recognition as a New Zealand record, of his performance lof Imin 53 2-ssec for the half-mile, the application was declined. The secretary reported at the July meeting of the council that, at -the previous meetiing the application was turned down on the ground that-the track was not measured on the day of the race. Since then,- however, it had been stated definitely that the track was measured on the day. of the race, and Mr. McCormick said he had written to the Canterbury Centre asking it to fill in a new application form with the necessary adjustments, but no reply had been received. It was decided toilet the matter stand -over' until this month's:meeting of the council (that held last night) pending a reply from Canterbury.

Plans of the course^ for this year's New Zealand cross-country championships, which are-to-be held in Auckland, were tabled. Mi-. McCormick was appointed to represent the council at the conference of harrier delegates, to be held in Auckland at.the time of the championships. ■
