BETTING UNITS
The totalisator at Victoria Park and Harold Park is poorly patronised in the paddock enclosures compared with the volume of business in the betting ring, says the Sydney "Referee." Most men bet with the bookmakers, but nearly all lady patrons at trotting meetings favour the totalisator The average woman" punter is not in a position to \vager 10s in every race and the clubs should seriously consider making the unit ss. In other States, where the unit has been lowered, increased business has resulted. Last season the Adelaide trotting meetings at Wayville had. a total of £200,000 in totalisator investments, due in the main to.the fact that the unit was 2s. As long as the 10s-unit is retained in Sydney, the totalisator returns will continue at a low level.
