PROGRESS OF SOCIETY

A BUSY YEAR REPORTED

"It is very gratifying to note that interest in the society has bsen well maintained," stated the annual report of the New Zealand Writers' and Artists' Society, presented at the annual meeting held at the Lyceum Club last night. Mrs. A.. D. Kerr, M.A., presided.

The annual report (which has already appeared in this column) was read, and an improved financial position was. shown by the balance-sboet. The society expressed thanks to (ha hon. auditor, Mr. H. H. Miller, to the Press, and to Miss N. Donovan, who has been a capable and energetic honorary secretary. ■ ?

It was decided to raise the annual subscription, which up to the present has been unusually low.

A discussion of programmes for meetings brought forward new ideas for the coming year. Among other plans, it was decided to keep a pro-

perty file of all members' published ' work. A motion til at in competitions there j be one class for seniors and one for ; juniors was carried, also the following 1 motion: "That associate members must be nominated by two financial mem- j bers of the society. On the payment of an annual subscription of 5s 6cl they may attend all meetings of the society and enter for competitions, ,but may not hold office or vote at business meetings. Associate members may become active members by winning or receiving honourable mention in any competition or by publication of work I deemed by the committee to be of sufficiently high standard to admit of full membership." .
