LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
"FATHERS" AT MEETINGS
A very happy and successful evenj ing meeting was held recently by the Seatoun branch of the League of Mothers, to which the fathers had 1 been invited also. The Kiosk was filled to capacity. t Mrs. A. P: Smith presided and wel- a corned the visitors, among whom was Mrs. Kcrsley (provincial president). £ Mrs. Smith expressed pleasure at l the large attendance of "fathers," l which, she said, evidenced the inter- « est they took in the work of their E wives. Feeling reference was made!1 to the very great loss the league had : sustained by the death of Mrs. Dawson, ! late Dominion secretary and treasurer, I and also to the loss sustained ü by Mrs. ] Morrison, a branch member, "in the death of her husband. All present ; stood in silence. ; Mrs. Kersley spoke briefly on the aims and objects of the league. The programme opened with two items sung by the choir, "The Shepherd's Dance" and "Santa Lucia." Mr. Gardiner delighted,his listeners with two songs, and humorous recitations by Mrs. Fellows caused much merriment. Mrs. Knox Gilmer gave a most interesting and instructive talk on "Gardening and Beautifying." A brief sketch was given of the history of gardening and the countries of origin of many flowers mentioned. The speaker gave a practical demonstration of the | planting and pruning of different' varieties of roses and hydrangeas, and her remarks conveyed most useful.information. At the conclusion of her 1 address Mrs. Gilmer was accorded a : very hearty vote of thanks. Mrs. Hogg moved a vote of apprecia--1 tion, which was carried by acclamation. ' A delicious supper >was served by ' the committee assisted by the members • and a happy half hour's chat indulged ' in. . 1 Mr. E. Kellow thanked the president ' and members oh behalf of those present for the delightful evening the "'fathers" had enjoyed—arid it was sug- ' gested that such an evening bo held 7 annually. • " '
