AN ERROR REVEALED
A Law Courts error that Sir Arthur Spurgeon has kept secret for about fifty years was revealed in England recently. The tablet commemorating the opening by Queen Victoria gives the year as 1883 instead of 1882. Sir Arthur marked his retirement from Croydon County Bench chair by telling how he discovered the error. "I was at the old Lincoln's Inn courts on the day it was announced that Queen Victoria would open the new courts in the Strand," he said. "On my first visit to the Law Courts I noticed the mistake, but I have never mentioned it till now."
