GIMBLETT HITS OUT
I (Received July 15, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 14. Yet another round of county cricket championship matches was marred by rain, play in three matches being confined to one day. Three teams, Surrey, Somerset, and Glamorgan, were able to score outright wins. Gover (Surrey), who took eleven Kent wickets at a total cost of 75 runs, has followed Verity (Yorkshire) in completing an aggregate of a hundred wickets for the season. Other bowlers who did well were Verity, Sibbles (Lancashire), Fames (Essex), P. Smith (Middlesex), Jackson (Worcestershire), Wellard (Somerset), and Mercer (Glamorgan). *'' ■ In making a half-century against Worcestershire Gimblett (Somerset) made 42 in eight strokes, hitting five 6's and three 4's. Centuries were scored by Fagg (Kent) and Hulme (Middlesex). THE RESULTS. The results are:— Kent v. Surrey, at Blackheath.— Kent 228 (Fagg 121; Gover four for 39) and 75 (Gover seven for 36). Surrey 113 (Watt 6 for 46) and 191 for six (Todd five for 41). Surrey won by four wickets. Nottinghamshire v. Yorkshire, at Bradford.—Nottinghamshire 84 (Verity eight for 42) and 121 (Smailes six for 57). Yorkshire 162 (Larwood five for 59) and 9 for none. Yorkshire won on the first innings. •Derbyshire v. Lancashire, at Manchester.—Derbyshire 116 for eight declared (Sibbles seven for 36). Lancashire 37 for none. The match was drawn. Warwickshire v. Gloucestershire, at Birmingham—Warwickshire 67. Gloucestershire 145 for seven. Gloucestershire won on the first innings. Middlesex v. Essex, at Colchester.— Middlesex 238 (Hulme 101; Fames seven for 84) and 138 for seven declared. Essex 144 (P. Smith seven for 28) and 140 for eight (P. Smith five for 31). Middlesex won on the first innings.
Somerset v. Worcestershire, at Yeovil.—Somerset 142 (Gimblett 52; Jackson five for 62) and 165 (Jackson five for 59). Worcestershire 60 (Wellard five for 29) and 77 (Wellard five for 16, Hazell four for 28). Somerset won by 170 runs.
_ Northamptonshire v. Sussex, at Rushden.—Northamptonshire 164 for eight declared. Sussex 82 (Clark five for 37)' Northamptonshire won on the first innings. \
Leicestershire v. Glamorgan at Swansea.—Leicestershire 94 (Mercer »* *» 42>. 176 (Mercer six for 81). Glamorgan 249 (Duckfleld 81 not out) and 23 for none. Glamorgan won by ten wickets. .
