SYDNEY FORGERY
RESERVE BANK NOTE
WARNING TO PUBLIC
The Keserve Bank of New Zealand has received advice from Sydney to the effect that an .attempt has been made there to pass a Reserve Bank of New Zealand 10s note altered to £10 and the public are warned so that they may be on guard against any attempt to pass a similarly-altered note in New Zealand.
Thp Reserve Bank of New Zealand has not issued any £10 notes. The denominations of its notes are- 10s £1, £5, £50. "
The manner in which the alteration was made is not divulged, nor is it stated whether the forgery was or clumsy. The number of alterations required to make a 10s note resemble a £10 note is remarkable. On the front of the note the amount appears four times, in figures, and the word "shillings" is printed in bold type, the print, moreover, running into a germetric pattern. On the back "ten shillings" appears five times in words and twice in figures. It has been said that the £50 Reserve Bank note closely resembles the 10s note, except for the denomination This is not strictly true. The £50 note is a much brighter .red, and the carved Maori panels oa either side of the front are of entirely different design.
