NEED FOR MONARCHY
: INTERESTS OF DEMOCRACY
HON. R. SEMPLE'S VIEWS
The necessity for perpetuating the British Monarchy in the interests of democracy was emphasised by the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple), when addressing a farewell luncheon gathering arranged by the Auckland Travel Club in honour of Mr. and Mrs; W J. Jordan Csays th* "New Zealand Herald").
"I think it should be everyone's aim," said Mr. Semple, "to perpetuate democracy and the monarchy, since the combination of those elements have ensured the progress of the British Empire, while other countries are coming under dictatorships. It should be ensured that the King of England shall rule for all time rather than that any other form of Government involving a dictatorship, whether from the bottom or the top, should emerge,"
