CHILDREN UNDER FIVE

Sir K-ingsley Wood, Minister of Health, in a speech at Wakefield, England, on May 26, said he was about to urge upon maternity and child welfare authorities the necessity for a systematic health-visiting service for all children under the age of five who do not attend school (states (the London "Daily Telegraph").

Arrangements for supervising the health of children up to. the age of eighteen nuonths .or two years were, he stated, generally satisfactory.. He wanted, however, to see more being done in many areas to safeguard the health of children between the ages of eighteen months and five years.

More than 16 per cent, of the children entering school were found to require treatment for some disease or defect which could have been prevented from developipg or could have been cured had adequate supervision of their health been exercised throughout pre-school years'.

A large sheet of blolting-pa)ier placed under a t«ay cloth saves the tray by absorbing anything that is spilt,, prevents the, polished surface from being marked by hot dishes, and deadens tires6me rattling and noises which annoy a sick, uerson.
