A PRICE PARADOX

The fact that during the first four months of this year the prices of New Zealand butter and cheese have averaged 12 per cent, more than those of i he same period last-year, whereas the average price for milk paid during the same period by the National Milk' Pool to the home farmer was Ad per gallon less than,a year ago, was"admitted by Mr. Walter Elliot (Minister of Agriculture). He was replying to a question by Sir Percy; Harris, M.P.; in the House of Commons; on May -25. In view of this fact, Sir Percy Harris' asked Mr. Elliot whether he would, in formulating a long-term policy- of agriculture, give special attention to: means, of increasing the consumption of liquid milk in preference to placing restrictions upon butter and cheese from the overseas Dominions.
