INCREASE IN BUTTER

NORTH AMERICAN SHIPMENTS

A substantial increase in shipments ■ >i. butter to the United Kingdom is .hown in the Dairy Board's return for aleyen months ended June 30. The ciuantity shipped for the period amounted to nearly 129,000 tons, an excess of 7000 tons over the corresponding months of 1934-35. The quantity shipped during June last was 7196 tons, compared with 7158 tons for June, 1935. The London market for butter is ouoyant at the moment and on Saturday last New Zealand commanded in London. 115s per cwt,. whereas the-price-on Friday was 113s, and the London Provision Exchange closed for the week on Thursday at 113s to 114s, .this being an advance of ss. to 6s on the week, and compared with 88s to 90s per cwt twelye months ago. The cheese/market is also very firm, showing an . advance on the week oils tols:6d per cwt, and stands at 60s to 61s. per cwt. A year .ago New Zealand' cheese was quoted in London at 44s- to 455, it therefore shows today an advance of 16s per-ewt. INCREASED RETURNS. Directors of Cambridge Butter Factory, Waikato, have decided to pay an interim:bonus to butter and cheese suppliers on July 30. For the payment of' the-butter bonus £2?.370 will1 be absorbed from the surplus, which will be equal to 2d per lb ;butterfat over the 'whole season; cheese suppliers willreceive £12,881 from the surplus to pay the bonus, which will be equal to 2 l-8d per lb butterfat over the whole season. The directors expect that-when-all realisations are to hand, the finalpayment for the season- to butter suppliers will be approximtely 13d per lb,and to cheese suppliers a little over13^d per lb.'
