REFORM IN LORDS
MR. BALDWIN UNABLE TO
PROMISE
(British omcial Wireless.) (Received July 14, 1.50 p.m.)
RUGBY, July 13.
This afternoon in the House of Commons the Prime Minister received a joint deputation of both Houses of Parliament which urged the importance of House of Lords reform during the lifetime of the present Parliament. About 150 members of both Houses attended.
The speakers on behalf of the deputation included Lord Salisbury and Sir Robert Home.
Mr. Baldwin, in reply, stated that owing to the grave problems which now occupied the whole attention of the Government, pressure on Parliamentary time, and lack of agreement on the matter throughout all sections of the National Government, he could not promise that the Government would initiate any legislation.
