CAR COLLIDES WITH POLE
; Startled by either a dog or a cat whilst traversing Tasman Street at 2.45 a.m. today, the driver of a taxi-cab lost control of the vehicle, and with a resounding crash which startled the residents in the vicinity it collided with a power pole. The car, which was severely damaged by the impact swung out from the pavement and capl I sized.. The driver, who had a miraculous escape from serious or even fatal injury, crawled out from the wreck, and later was taken to hospital for treatment for shock. The force of the impact may be gauged from the fact, that. the..power'pole: struck was (shattered about ten feet from the .ground.-;. Had the pole not stopped the cars career, it appears■ certain that a crash through a fence into the bedroom of a house nearby would have resulted
