MCVILLY SHIELD RACE
RIDDINGTON'S FINE FORM
The Scottish Club's annual teams' race.ior the McVilly Shield was held at. Hutt .Park, on Saturday afternoon in fine weather with a cold breeze from the north. A good cross-country trail of three miles was laid by Robbie and Smith, of the Hutt Valley Club. The start and finish were on the racecourse. • The 32 runners were sent away by the club president, Mr. W. W. Ballantyne, sen. F. Silver immediately, took the lead. The leaders were constantly changing positions along the road at the back of the grandstand. Going along the back Silver was again.' in .front, leading Riddington, Stevens/ and Garty, the others being close up. Tunbridge, through falling after leaving the road, was tunning twelfth at this stage. -There were many minor changes going through the boggy paddocks, runners losing their shoes. Coming across the paddocks, Riddington was leading Stevens and Tunbridge. The latter runner,. however, had reversed positions with Stevens coming on to the racecourse, but Sfevens responded and repassedi Tunbridge to finish. 60 yards behind Riddington. The placings and times were as follows:—
Riddington, 17min 35sec, 1;- Stevens, rimin 47sec, 2; Tunbridge, 17min 49 sec, 3; Bruce, 18min 2sec, 4; Silver, 18min J4sec, 5; Wftodley, 13min 22sec, 6. Then came Garty,' Violiclv Elleray and Buchanan.
Teams' Section.—H team (Elleray, captain 9, J. Garty 7, Calson 13, and E. Garty 23), 52 points, 1; E team (Woodley 6, Tritt 11, McKenzie 16, and Marshall 22),. 55 points, 2; D team (Bruce 4, Buchanan 10, Blewman 26. Renton: 20),.60 points,: 3. - At the conclusion of the race, afternoon tea was served at the invitation of the club.
The Vosseler Shield will be competed for next. Saturday at Lyall Bay. The Scottish Club has held the trophy since
