HIDES SHOW A DECLINE

The fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides, tallow, and sundries was held by local woolbrokers yesterday, before a large attendance of exporters, tanners, and the local trade.

Competition for sheepskins was animated, values for all grades and descriptions appreciating Jd to id per lb. Halfbreds sold up to lOd, fine crossbreds to 9!} d. There was only a small offering of salteds, prices being without much change on late rates. A fair offering of all grades of hides was submitted. Some nice parcels of abattoir and butchers' hides were brought forward, exporters and tanners bidding freely on all descriptions. The market showed an easing. Heavy ox sold on a par with late rates, mediums to 3-8 d lower, and light 3-8 dto 5-8 d lower. Cow, all weights, declined l-8d to Id. Kip, yearlings, and calf also met a weaker market, values being lower by id to id. Calf, weights 6-81b, sold to. 14 l-Bd, and l-51b 14d.

There was a small offering. of tallow, prices on the average being lower by Is per cwt.

The range of prices is quoted below Dry Sheepskins.—Half bred, BJd to 10d a lb; fine crossbred, 7jd to 93d; medium 6J,d to 93d; coarse, 6Jd to 9Jd; halfwools, 6d to 9^d; quarter-wools, 43d to B^d; pelts, 4^d to 7d.

Salted Skins.—Full wools, 7s 2d to 7s 6d each.

Hides.—Ox, 331b to 441b, 43d to 5 3-8 d a lb; 45 to 52, 5d to 6 7-8 d; 53 to 59, 7d to 7 3-8 d; 60 to 69, 7id to 7 3-8 d; 701b and over, 6 7-Sd to 8d; cow, 33 to 39, 4d to s£d; 40 to 48, 3£d to sid; 491b and over, 43d to 6£d; kip, 25 to 32, 5 l-8d to 6£d; 17 to 24, 6d to BJd; yearling, 11 to 16, 8 3-8 d to 9 7-Sd; calf, 9 to 10, 8d to lOid: 6 to 8, 12d to 14 l-8d; 1 to 5, HJd to 14d.

Tallow.—ln tins, 14s to 16s 6d a cwt.

Sundries.—Cow tails, 12^d a lb; horse hair, 19 r id.
