UPPER HUTT RATES
MOVE FOR REDUCTION The Mayor of Upper Hutt (Mr. A. J. McCurdy) has given notice of motion to move at the meeting of the Upper Hutt Borough Council on Monday:— "That the resolution passed at the meeting of the council held on June 8 fixing the general rates for the east and west wards for the current financial year be rescinded, and the following general and consolidated rates be substituted: (1) For the east ward 3.699 d, other rates unaltered, making the consolidated rate B|d in £1; (2) for the west ward general rate of 3.96 d, other rates unaltered, making the consolidated rate 93d in £1.
If Mr. McCurdy's notice of motion is carried it will mean that the reduction in the east ward rates will be .721 d in the £1 and in the west ward .84d. The rates were increased at the last meeting of, the council by -6d in the east ward and Id in the west ward.
Mr. McCurdy has also moved that the 40-hour week for the road staff commence on July 1.
