FRIENDLY SOCIETY MEMBERS
(To tne Editor.) Sir,—-I noted "26-year Druid's" letter in your paper a night or two ago, and the sentiments he expressed are unfortunately only too true in my case. I have been a financial Druid for 38 years, and as it was impossible for me to make my payments, due to unemployment, I was duly struck off the membership list. In view of the fact that during my 38 years membership I was never a burden on the funds, it is very difficult to understand why more lenient treatment should not be extended. No one suggests that the society should be imposed upon, but in genuine cases I honestly consider that Druids should at least have done for them, that which other societies are disposed to do. Surely l it is now not too late to reinstate unfinancial members, who are like myself fortunate enough to again be working. Quarterly payments could be slightly in excess of the normal in order to provide for back payments. It is to be understood that facing a" doctor again would also be dispensed with. I am sure that my fellow Druids who are placed in a position similar to myself would be indeed grateful if the position was reviewed and some consideration extended to us, in view of the many years of faithful membership in the past.—l am, etc., 38 YEARS A DRUID.
