HOUSES IN DANGER
EROSION OF CLIFF
NEW PLYMOUTH PROBLEM'
(By Telegraph) (Special to the "Evening Post.")
NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day.
-The rapid!; "erosion of the cliff at Woolcombe Terrace, New Plymouth, is endangering several-houses and may soon menace the main railway line. Where once there was a wide field leading. to the sea cliff, there is now a' cliff nearly 100 feet high at the'back doors of several homes and touching the edge of a street.
A deputation of alarmed residents waited or? the .Borough Council last night arid appealed for measures to stop the inroads of the sea. They sug;gested the closing of the street owing to the danger of the vibration of heavy traffic causing further falls of earth. ' The question discussed by the council was whether the value of the properties or the cost of protective works would be the greater. The matter was referred to the works committee to consider in conjunction with a proposal 10 construct a marine parade along the' Waterfront.
