FINER WEATHER

WARMER TOMORROW Special forecast for Wellington:— Light, but freshening, northerly winds. Weather fine at first and cold, but clouding over tomorrow when temperatures will become milder. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for light to moderate southerly to south-easterly winds at first to the north of Cape Egmont and Castlepoint. Elsewhere northerlies will prevail, and these will freshen gradually about and to the south of Cook Strait. Further showers may be expected at first between Hawke's Bay and East Cape, but otherwise the weather will be fine. It will cloud over later, however, in Westland and in the far south and rain will gradually develop in those districts. Temperatures will be cold tonight, but warmer tomorrow. Yesterday an intense anticyclone was moving on to New Zealand, the highest pressure being to the west of the South Island. This morning the anticyclone lay centrally over the Dominion, but barometers have begun tQ fall in the far south under the influence of a shallow depression which is advancing across the Tasman Sea. There were passing showers yesterday in eastern districts between Cook Strait and East Cape, but otherwise the weather was fine. It was still showery this morning in a few places to the north of Hawke's Bay, but elsewhere the weather was brilliantly fine after a frosty night. Southerly winds prevailed yesterday from Canterbury northward and these were fresh on parts of ; the east coast and in the Taranaki ; Bight. In southern districts lignt i ; northerly winds were experienced, and i northerlies had by this morning extended over most of the South Island.

Auckland has had fine and cool weather with light to moderate southeasterly breezes. Wellington's weather yesterday was cold and changeable, with frequent, though light, passing showers. A fresh southerly breeze prevailed, "But this fell away during the evening and the weather improved. It was brilliantly fine this moming after a frosty night. During the early hours this morning it was calm, but a northerly breeze set in later. Yesterday's rainfall totalled seven points at Kelburn, ten falling in Lower Hutt.
