FREEZING WORKERS
CLAIM FOR DOMINION AWARD {By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 1. A decision to form a South Island Freezing Workers' Union and to unite with the North Island freezing workers in claiming a Dominion award was reached at a conference of representatives of the workers held here during Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Delegates were present from Picton to Blufr, and one delegate represented the freezing workers of the North Island. It is estimated 5000 workers were represented.
Proposals to be made for a claim to a Dominion award include a 40-hour week and wages at 1931-32 rates.
Work has just begun on the scheme for the extension of the Bakerloo Tube railway between Finchley Road and Baker Street, London, at an estimated cost of approximately £2,000,000.
