FRENCH DEFENCES
MINISTER'S NAVAL SURVEY
BREST, May 30.
M. Pietri, Minister of Marine, speaking at the opening of a new naval school, emphasised that France in the last 12 years had rebuilt her navy to suit her requirements. She had created big submarine stations at Toulon and Bizerta, had completed the plans for a complementary Algerian naval base at Mers-el-kebir, had armed the French Moroccan coast with modern defences, and had also given attention to war stocks, especially oil fuel, which was housed in subterranean wells unique throughout the world.
