There were 27 competitors in the I Scottish Club's annual race for the Le j Gaye Rose Bowl on Saturday. The event, which is run as a sealed handicap, was trom Rongotai, the course leading up Calabar Road, Wexford Street, nobart Street, and across Crawiord Green to Monorgan Koad. After climbing the stiff hill, the trail led along the hillside at the back of the golf links to the roact skirting Lyall Bay. This was followed to Kingsi'ord Smith Street, the finishing tape being down this street about 5u I yards from Broadway. Mr. W. Ballantyne, sen., the club president, was starter. F. Silver took the lead at the start, closely followed by Bruce. At Hobart Street the leaders were Tunbridge, Bruce, and Woodley. Riddington and Stevens at this stage were content to remain in the first half-dozen Going over the hill at the end of Monorgan Road, Riddington took the lead from Tunbridge, who was followed by Stevens, Bruce, and Woodley. Fifty yards further back Silver led Clement. Buchanan, ana Violich. Going through the rough country, comprising lupins, 6ft high, and loose sand, Riddington obtained a good break and went on to win the race for j the third year in succession by 150 yards from Tunbridge, who beat Stevens by about 75 yards. On revision of the handicaps tl.c, winner of the Le Gaye Rose Bowl was Tunbridge (39sec), who also won the trophy in 1932. Bruce <57sec) was second, and Riddington (scr) third. The Hudson trophy for fastest time was also won by Tunbridge, Riddingvon being ineligible, the rules governing the trophy debarring a runner from winning twice. Riddington won in 1934, and last year the trophy was awarded to Stevens. Next week a run will be held lrom the Karori Council Chambers.
