WAIWETU CLUB
The semi-final of the Atkms Cup, played under very cold conditions at Waiwetu on Saturday, resulted as follows:— J. J. Garbett (18) beat H. M. Williamson (17), 5 and 4; W.- T. Wilson (10) beat T. P. Davis, by the same margin. Garbett was playing well and gradually forged ahead; in the earlier rounds he had some close decisions, having two replays in the second round, one in the third, also another in the fourth, altogether nine rounds to reach the final. Wilson played very well, and won the second, third, fourth, and fifth holes in a row, and turned 5 up. Davis could make up none of the leeway, Wilson maintaining his lead until the match finished as stated. The final should prove very interesting, and is to be over thirty-six holes next weekend. . „ , , The medal round on Saturday was won by R. W. Gray with 91, 20—71, 1 closely followed by G. R. Millward, ■ 81, 9—72, and W. F. Gill, 84, 12—72. The stroke competition on Sunday • resulted as follows: —Seniors: J. Hat- • field, 85, 18—67; W. F. Gill, 80, 12—68; : A. Lewis, 87, 18—69. Juniors: J. Colquhoun, 92, 24r-68; I. Thomas, 93, 24—69; R. W. Gray, 91, 20—71. ■ The fourball bogey competition produced a tie, G. Rotherham and H.' C. • Hogan, 5 up; J. Hatfield and H. H. C. Ribbands, 5 up; G. Hatfield and G. . R. Millward, 3 up; W. F. Gill and R. . W. Gray, 3 up. 1
