PERSONAL ITEMS
Mr. V. H. Waters has retired on superannuation from the service r£ the firm of Levin and Co., Ltd. He joined the firm's staff as a youth in 1890, and subsequently was promoted to the shipping department, with which he has been associated ever since. He was farewelled by the staff on Friday. Mr. W. Harvey referred to the high esteem in which Mr. Waters was held, and, on behalf of the staff, presented him with a wallet of bank-notes. Mr. A. C. Blair spoke of Mr. Waters's' long residence in Wellington, and referred to the time when he was one of the district's foremost cricketers, having represented the province on several occasions. In responding, Mr. Waters alluded to the progress of the shipping and trade of the port of Wellington during the last 46 years.
