BREEDING BY AIR MAIL

POLISH EXPERIMENT SUCCEEDS

.™ m . LONDON, May 15. The Times" records that the Cambridge University School of Agriculture sent male fertilising fluid from a buffolk ram in a vacuum flask packed m ice to Poland by air mail, taking 51 hours. Subsequently a Polish ewe gave birth to a ram lamb, half Suffolk and half Polish, aptly named "the airman." There is no doubt as to its parentage. The experiment demonstrates th<=> widening possibilities of future use of valuable sires in improving the quality of livestock. The problem of how to maintain the fluid's fertility for a longer period, thus allowing transport over reasonable distances, is yet unsolved. Transport of fluid has been carried out on a practical scale in Russia, but the Cambridge-Poland experiment is the first exchange between countries. Such-of ths cable news on this paw as Is so headed has appeared In "The Times" and Is cabled to Australia and New Zealand by special permission. It should be understood that the opinions are not those of "lac Times" unless expressly stated to be so.
