RUGBY LEAGUE
ST. GEORGE'S NARROW
WIN
NOTES ON PLAYERS
By defeating:"Central with a converted' try just/, on the call of time by 23 points,to" 22', : St. George" recorded a solid performance. A. O'Connor was indisposed and; this necessitated shifting B. Bayley from five-eighths to the scrum-half; position. Bayley quickly adapted; himself to y the position and proved a good substitute for OiConnor. Outstanding in Bayley"s play, was his defence;] time and again he withstood the raids of the faster-breaking Central fonyards: ••/. C. McNeil, the. youthful Auckland winger, made .his first appearance/for St. George i'and impressed as being a great scoring man. McNeil, obviously, know/s/.■ what ' is : . required- of a Rugby League winger and does not hesitate to use the centre kick when necessary. • It is remarkable' the way Dick Moisley retains his form and, apart from his "knowledge, of the game, Moisley is a first-class leader. In 1928 Auckland .Marist were led by iloisley and were a fine combination, which ended a brilliant season by beating South Sydney. Ifoisley went on to represent Auckland, New Zealand, and Wellington, and as an all-round clubman he is invaluable to St. George. J. Coutts has settled down to the
[League style of forward play, and is [showing the benefit of experience [gained against the Australians. He is a favoured candidate for Test honours against the British team. E. Gladding has yet to reveal the form credited to him in the Union game in Auckland, where he played for Otahuhu. Gladding scored two of Saint?' tries. He and McNeil may i develop into a sound combination. I W. Spencer is an exceptionally sound full-back and it would appear that only H. Lilburne can keep him I out of that position in the representative side. Spencer is the most'promising full-back Wellington Rugby League has'had for some time, and it is in his favour that he has youth and a keen desire to. learn the game.
