HOW RALPH AITKEN LOST
wJfw^Ji 0 "The Post" regarding Ralph Aitken<s defeat at Blenheim by a technical knock-out in the third round against Clarrie Rayner, Herb Larsen states that Aitken was not outclassed, his defeat being due to the fact that his mouth-protector was left behind in Wellington. Rayner opened a cut on his lip and the referee stopped the bout when the blooa commenced to flow. , , / "Rayner knows it was" a very- liard fight while it lasted," continues Larsen, "for. he was down in the second round and went to his corner groggy at the gong. I think the referee was in error in not-examining Ralph's lid before he,stopped the fight. If He had done so he would have seen that it was all right. I shall seek a'retura bout for Aitken with Rayner," Larsen pays a tribute to the Marlborough officials, describing them as a very fine lot of sports. "They treated Aitken, Glengarry, and myself with great kindness," he writes '"V/e went down and back by aeroplane, and it was a wonderful experience. Clarrie Rayner is a very fine spoilsman and showed his reg'-ct v.hen t"nc fight \\a* stopped." ■■■
