CHRISTCHURCH TRAMS
AN ECHO OF 1932 STRIKE

CHRISTCHURCH, April 24.
All members-of,-the. traffic staff o£ the Christchurch Tramway Board who lost jobs during the. strike in 1932 and who have remained out of the board's employment since that time will be re-engaged oh Monday, May 4, the third anniversary of the strike. A new award which comes into operation on that day removes the need for rationing and creates jobs for seventeen men. Hours have been reduced from 96 a fortnight to 88, and the hourly rate of pay has" been increased by 2d an hour for conductors and 1 Jd an hour for motormen. . '
The weekly wage was not altered owing to the shortening of hours.
